Earlier this year, back in June, a couple of us lucky Squid's we're fortunate to work with the great team that run Cannes Lions, on their ibeacon VIP event network.
Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity (formerly the International Advertising Festival) is a global event for those working in the creative communications, advertising and related fields.
With our UK based partners Eagle View, our ibeacon experience assisted implement an ibeacon infrastructure for VIPs attending the week long festival.
This ibeacon infrastructure was set up at both at the event itself, in the Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France, but also at Nice Airport. The airport location was selected to be able to distinguish VIPs flying into the City. Through a specifically developed concierge tablet application, the fantastic concierge staff were able to meet and greet these incoming VIPs, with all the relevant information at their fingertips.
If anyone has been to Cannes Lions and the Palais des Festivals, you will know that it is a vast space, over several buildings and floors, as well as an array of events along the famous Cannes Beach. Therefore, the set up of just ibeacon tracking devices needed to be well thought through and well placed to be able to accurately detect an attendee, with an ibeacon in their event badge.
The event was a great success with around 1,000 VIP guests managed through the ibeacon network and concierge iPad application.
For us Aussie Squids the Cannes experience was amazing and although we all worked long days in the lead up to the festival the results were well worth the effort.
We look forward to the next Cannes Lions event next year.
